At Purple Petals, massage therapists take their time to pamper clients, performing fluid Swedish massages or therapeutic treatments that alternate light and deep pressure. Reflexology sessions work to treat ailments through precise pressure on the feet, and deep tissue massages use slow, firm pressure to relieve stubborn aches.
Licensed massage therapist JoAnne Stevens believes that mind, body, and spirit all contribute to wellness and deserve equal attention. To that end, the owner of Divine Healing Massage & Spa Therapy can use massage to focus on singular complaints, be they sore backs, stiff necks, or worried minds. But she can also give attention to more nuanced factors, whether it's stress contributing to a stiff neck or range of motion problems. Her customized massages can include a blend of techniques, including Swedish and trigger point massage, and she'll also add soothing extras such as hot towel therapy or heated basalt stones to melt tension in particularly tricky trouble spots.
804 Wellness helps clients find relief from stress and pain no matter the source. For instance, to address chronic muscle tension, the center's massage therapists rely on deep-tissue massage. They also treat conditions such as fibromyalgia and arthritis using heated stones. As for injuries, therapists may turn to sports massage techniques, which can help both athletes and non-athletes recover more quickly as well as improve their range of motion. Of course, massages are as much about the experience as the results, which is why therapists incorporate relaxing touches such as aromatherapy and a spa-wide ban on all birds who screech.

As a division of the American Critical Care Services nursing agency, Wellness For Life aims to prevent health issues before they begin. Led by board-certified massage therapist Candice Merrick, the holistic-minded team of certified massage therapists performs several modalities—including hot-stone therapy and side-by-side couples massages—to stop conditions such as tension headaches, muscular pain, and stress. Staffers enhance massage sessions with automated devices that promote overall health, including an ionic footbath, thermal jade massage bed, and an infrared hand treatment designed to alleviate arthritis in the knuckles and greatly improve hand-jive ability.
The tranquil, nature-inspired ambiance further encourages stress-relief. Colorful prints of seashells complement pictures of gazebos in green gardens and the blurred colors of impressionistic paintings. Each massage also includes complimentary aromatherapy and a warm neck wrap to soothe the senses. After their session, guests can sip hot tea in the lounge or schedule a holistic stress-reduction consultation with Carolyn McCrocklin, PhD, a registered nurse, to maintain their peace-filled mentality.
Kate Johnson has long been passionate about natural wellness, taking an active role in her family’s nutrition while she home-schooled her three kids. But she eventually discovered that food is just one part of the equation when it comes to a healthy body. Kate also found that massage—when combined with proper eating and health habits—can perform a number of health-related wonders, from diminishing inflammation in the body to helping heal damaged tissue. It was this revelation that led her to become a certified massage therapist and open Healing Hands Massage, where she helps all manner of clients manage pain, recover from injuries, and simply cultivate peace of mind.
Kate’s primary focus is traditional bodywork in the form of Swedish, deep-tissue, and sports massage, but she also ropes in a number of specialized modalities. These include myofascial release and craniosacral therapy, as well as prenatal treatments for those dealing with pregnancy-related pains. She also offers a high-tech photonic wand therapy treatment—this treatment eschews kneading fingers for a handheld apparatus that emits a high-frequency red light. The light penetrates deep into tissues to help improve blood flow, encourage cellular repair, and ease pain.
