Dr. Dawn Batiz Blagg and the Loraine Shinks Rejuvenate Spa
team of aestheticians believe that people are their most beautiful when they feel relaxed and pampered. To that end, they create a soothing spa atmosphere where they offer microdermabrasions, chemical peels, and massages as well as deep-cleansing facials and Botox injections. Alternately, spa-goers can relax during a luxurious face, hand, and foot massage before getting a Brazilian bikini wax and a natural-looking spray tan, or get a seaweed wrap to help reduce the look of cellulite, while reminding clients of their summer vacations to the shore.
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Essential oils are massaged into your abdomen, then wrapped in mineral, clay and extract soaked cloth bandages. (Optional abdominal massage.) You then lay in an Infrared Blanket that burns up to 1200 calories an hour. We keep you comfortable with a Cold Stone foot, neck, shoulder and face massage.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
We want to bring Healthy Detox Body Wraps to the Frisco and Mckinney community. We believe in the health benefits of the detox wrap and Infrared heat, not just the quick fix of inch loss fad wraps. Our products are pure, all natural and will help clean your system.
What do you love most about your job?
We love to share health and wellness with my community. Feeling great and looking great are important to living a happy life. We enjoy helping our clients meet their goals.
What is the best reaction you've ever gotten from a customer?
We love to hear how happy our clients are. They often say, "I will recommend you to all of my friends." This makes our hearts happy!
The trained technicians of Spa Botanica not only foster beautiful complexions, they work to build lasting relationships with their clients through personalized services and luxurious extras. To delight clients' senses they often employ aromatherapy, shea butter, and products infused with moor mud. They also offer fresh fruit, complimentary champagne, and orange and cucumber water in the client lounge. Once they are relaxed, clients can slip into a light slumber as an aesthetician detoxifies and exfoliates the body with a sea-salt scrub and green-coffee-infused body wrap, or enjoy one of four types of facials that brighten the skin with Dermalogica skincare products. Relaxation is further amplified during customized private and couples massages, which release tension with heated stones and reflexology techniques. An onsite steam shower purges the skin of impurities by opening each pore, whereas nail technicians pamper hands, feet, and rabbit-foot key chains with paraffin-wax treatments and hydrating lotions.
Massage therapist and aesthetician Sharon Stone—no relation to hot stones—complements her extensive massage and skincare training with a fierce passion for her chosen field. She spent more than a decade working in the corporate world, and when she realized that the drab cubicle walls were failing to nourish her soul, she turned her lifelong interest in massage into a new career.
Sharon goes above and beyond in every treatment she conducts. When administering a facial or a peel, for instance, she takes time to educate her clients about their own skin type. And when she performs a soothing massage—prenatal, sports, hot-stone, and deep-tissue modalities are among her many areas of expertise—she customizes each massage stroke to the client's individual needs. Sharon offers this same personalized approach during her waxing treatments, body wraps, and lash-extension services, all with the goal of improving her clients' sense of self and overall well-being.
As a physical therapist with his own private practice, Hand & Stone founder and chief operating officer John Marco made sure that he kept abreast of the rapidly growing health and wellness industry. After a period of careful research and planning, John decided to create a spa based around convenience and affordability—Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa.
Since its launch, Hand & Stone has expanded to more than 20 states and four planets. The spa’s core concept is to offer massage, facial, and waxing services performed by licensed, certified, or registered professionals and offered at convenient times, seven days a week. Each location adheres to a traditional spa aesthetic with soft lighting, heated treatment tables, and plush linens.
Rebecca Wiener, a licensed massage therapist and teacher, worked as a chiropractic assistant for four years. That's where she mastered techniques to use on both adults and children alike, ranging from isometric exercises and passive stretches to guessing the number of courses a person took in college based on the backpack impression left in their spine. At Massage District, she integrates those skills with massage-therapy techniques that span from traditional Swedish strokes, deep tissue to gua sha, a lesser-known Eastern modality that uses the palpations of a rounded instrument to breakdown scar tissue. She also incorporates aromatherapy and both hot and cold stones to enhance the soothing effects of her treatments.
