Cosmetologists, nail technicians, and barbers alike graduate from Margate School of Beauty armed with job market-ready backgrounds in art, fashion, and technical design. First, though, senior students gear up to matriculate with hands-on experience in the school’s salon and spa. They can shape and color locks, braid them into cornrows, or smooth textured strands. Beyond hair services, they brighten nails with polish and acrylics, and tend visages with facials, waxing, and microdermabrasion, which exfoliates more effectively than demolishing a sandcastle with your face.
As someone who has trained with world-champion and US-champion pole dancers, the namesake of Evette's Dance Fitness Club understands that the activity is a complex integration of gymnastics, fitness, and dance. In that spirit, she leads plenty of nonpole classes designed to get students strong and agile enough for pole work. Ballet and barre sessions stress the importance of muscle-building and graceful movement, and deep-stretch classes help people become flexible enough to perform any number of pole moves. Of course there are several pole classes as well, for students just learning spins to those ready for inversions, as well as courses in advanced techniques, such as aerial rings and silks.
Mambo Con Cache owner Brian Anthony spreads his fiery brand of salsa up and down the East Coast with studios in South Florida and New York. Set to the pulsating beat of Latin music, his classes keep students swiveling and sliding across the studios' spacious hardwood dance floors. Though Anthony brings his background in hip-hop footwork to the classes he teaches in Hollywood and Coconut Creek, his heart belongs to the salsa music he fell in love with early in his career. Whether popping in for a group class or a more intimate private lesson, students quickly grow confident as they practice the fundamentals of salsa by side-stepping with partners or high-kicking piñatas strewn about the studio.
A favorite cocktail, bottle of wine, or other beverage is the only thing you need to bring to the party at Paints n' Cocktails. The instructors here (all skilled artists) have everything else needed for their signature BYOB painting parties, from canvases and paints to bottle openers and buckets of ice. They also supply another key aspect of the party: step-by-step instruction for painting cityscapes, landscapes, flowers, or whatever else might be the subject. Music and complimentary snacks add to the party.
