  • XLR8 Fitness
The experienced personal trainers at XLR8 are half drill sergeant, half high-school football coach, and half mathematician, but all expert. They want you to go tactical on flab, but not without realistic encouragement and support. In this boot camp, the enemy is predictability. Each day, your instructors will throw down a fresh guerrilla-ambush worth of challenges for your muscles and your brain, fueling constant gains and keeping you engaged. Over the course of the one-hour sessions, you'll run, jump, lift weights, slam through obstacle courses, chase chickens, punch slabs of beef, and end with a live-crocodile wrestle. Early morning and evening classes are offered outdoors at West End Park and the adjacent Coconut Beach, and additional morning classes are conducted at the Hopkins School of Dance in Kenner. Check the schedule to find a class that works for you.

  • Jazzercise National
Jazzercise is 60 minutes of cardio, strength training, and stretching that incorporates moves from hip-hop, yoga, Pilates, jazz dance, kickboxing, and resistance training with handheld weights. Dancing with the Stars multiple-champion Cheryl Burke is a big fan of Jazzercise's improvisational workouts, though luckily you won't need her dance moves to get the most out of your class. If you're prone to first-class jitters, though, you can review the basic moves online before you go. Expect to burn off up to 500 calories with each go-round.

  • Yoga504
Holistic practitioners April, Jerome, and Jeffrey have united their complementary areas of expertise in Eastern healing techniques to help patrons foster a well-rounded approach to health and wellness through yoga, life coaching, reiki, and qi gong. Yoga504's yoga instructor, April, leads weekly yoga classes that vary in style, from the vigorous aerobic Vinyasa tradition to the slower-paced Yin yoga practice. When not easing patrons' stress and pain through yoga, she also helps them manage their lives through her life-coaching services, empowering them to effectively manage their time, lose weight, or build a healthy relationship with their estranged shadow. Further reducing patrons' anxiety and tension, Jerome performs reiki sessions designed to channel positive energy to bolster emotional and spiritual health. Those suffering from chronic pain issues may be able to relate to qi gong practitioner Jeffrey, who began his career in alternative healing after being diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, a chronic disease that causes inflammation in the joints with the possibility of the spinal bones eventually fusing together. He credits his experience in Eastern medicine for being fully mobile at age 34—which his doctors believed to be impossible—and strives to help each of his clients manage their ailments though qi gong's therapeutic techniques.

  • Hour Blast - Metaire
The floor inside Hour Blast is a constantly changing exercise ecosystem. Each time a students step into class, they find a new arrangement of dumbbells, TRX bands, stability balls, and other high-intensity training gear meant to work every muscle in the body. Yet those items make up only part of Hour Blast's signature 60-minute workouts. That's because the instructors combine floor time with interval treadmill work during each class to keep heart rates elevated. Yet workouts are scaled based on ability: whether participants do their intervals at a walking, jogging, or running pace depends on their skill level or the number of wheels embedded into their shoes.
