  • Zombie Rampage 5K Run
At the Zombie Rampage 5K Run, the horror and excitement of the mythicized zombie apocalypse comes to life at Stephens Lake Park. Runners choose whether they want to be zombies or humans. Humans get a head start and attempt to outrun zombies looking to "infect" (tag) them and take their human cards. In turn, zombies must safeguard their health flags, which can be stolen by humans or other zombies. At the end of the race, the fastest human wins, and the zombie who infected the most humans while maintaining at least one health flag wins. Throughout the course, runners can avail themselves of first-aid stations or hydration stations as the need arises. All proceeds from the Zombie Rampage 5K Run benefit the University of Missouri Rowing Club.

  • Off Track Events
The world as we know it has ended. The woods are now crawling with zombies and chainsaw-wielding madmen. There's a feeling of dreadful chaos in the air. This is the scenario presented by Day of the Running Dead, a 5K cross-country adventure laced with the threat of zombie attacks. Piles of hay bales, rope ladders, mud pits, and other obstacles along the course add a special challenge for those immune to the zombies' tricks or extra-afraid of dirt. So do the costumes that runners are encouraged to wear. Those who survive are invited to an after-party featuring food, drinks, music, and prizes for the top 10 costumes.

  • Zombie Survival Dash
It’s only 5 kilometers long, but the Zombie Survival Dash, as the name might suggest, is a bit more than the average run. As runners tagged with timing chips for tracking, placement, and action shots make their way toward the finish line, they're also equipped with three flags representing their health. Meanwhile, the course's stretch is littered with both traditional obstacles and costumed zombies who block, stumble, and chase runners and attempt to steal their health flags. All the while, spectators look on, as every half hour a wave of 300 survivors is unleashed upon the course. Then, spectators, survivors, and zombies retire hand-in-hand to an all-day after party with live music and entertainment, just like at the end of a real zombie movie. Vendors dispense food and drink as partiers participate in zombie-themed fair activities such as faux-grenade tosses and body-bag drags.

  • R.U.S.H. 5K
R.U.S.H. 5K, or the Run Uniting Super Heroes, encourages runners, joggers, and walkers to come dressed as their favorite comic-book hero. But strapping on a cape isn't what makes a true hero on this day?it's the fact that every participant raises money for The Sparrow's Nest, a maternity home for young women in need who are pregnant or parenting; and Bridgeway Behavioral Health, which operates two emergency, domestic violence shelters for women and children. The 5K occurs and is followed with a one-mile fun run for kids, and both races end with a celebration and awards ceremony. Here, DJs spin family-friendly music as kids practice flying in bounce houses and adults change back into their everyday disguises.
