The Maryland Film Festival, like a freakish hurdle sprinter, runs for five days and showcases about 50 feature films and 75 short pieces—ranging from documentaries to animations—many of which are presented by their respective filmmakers or celebrity guest hosts. Past hosts have included Ian MacKaye and Branford Marsalis, and legendary filmmaker John Waters regularly makes an appearance at the festival, hosting a feature film of his choice. Attendees may also stimulate and expand their sensory palates with special events that have included international flicks, three-dimensional movies, and vintage silent films synced to live music.

  • Taste of 3 Cities Food Truck Festival Baltimore
Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. each boast vibrant food-truck scenes, but most of these trucks had never traveled outside of their own city's borders. They didn't, that is, until the Taste of 3 Cities Food Truck Festival. Now, 60 trucks from three of the East Coast's largest cities are going on tour, engaging in a delicious bit of cultural exchange during three separate festival appearances. Read on to learn more about some of the featured trucks at the fest's Baltimore stop: GrrChe: Baltimore's grilled-cheese truck provides an updated take on the childhood classic; sandwiches incorporating bacon, jalapenos, and even mac and cheese. Baron Von Schwein: Under the watchful eye of their truck's fearsome wolf mascot, chefs from York, PA work their dark barbecue magic on brisket, pork, and chicken, turning this meat trio into everything from sliders and tacos to cheesesteaks and salads. Red Hook Lobster Pound: This DC-based truck specializes in a more northerly delicacy: Maine lobster rolls (served in Maine-style cold or Connecticut-style hot varieties). They've also got clam chowder and homemade whoopie pies. The Cow and the Curd: Out of Philly rides this award-winning truck, which serves baskets of piping-hot, beer-battered Wisconsin cheese curds. Midnite Confection's Cupcakery: Based in Baltimore, this truck houses a bakery's worth of gourmet cupcakes in flavors ranging from chocolate red velvet to birthday cake to lemon with lime buttercream.
