Whether pursuing a life as a professional cook or a behind-the-scenes mover in culinary arts and restaurant management, the students at JNA Institute of Culinary Arts have honed their craft with professionalism and skill for more than 20 years. Students learn real-world lessons in a demanding professional setting, from running a kitchen to pleasing food critics with menus sung in four-part harmony. JNA shows off the fruits of these labors at its onsite restaurant, where the food is both prepared and served by students. The restaurant boasts a seasonal menu, gracing plates with items that have ranged from housemade gelato to cornmeal-dusted scallops.
Aiming to make exotic cooking an approachable feat for even the least experienced chef, Personal Chef Yoon Lee of Let's Cultivate Food performs culinary magic in private kitchens, traveling up to 25 miles from the King of Prussia, Philadelphia area (extra fee for highway tolls, bridges, and city parking) to your home. With a variety of themed menus to choose from—including sushi-making, Korean BBQ, Thai favorites, Vietnamese, Indian cuisine. and more—cooking-party hosts can set their food preferences before a duo of chefs arrives with all the necessary fresh ingredients. Participants then learn to cook the menu of their choosing, such as pad thai, chicken tikka masala, pho noodles, and dumplings before enjoying each dish in the comfort of their homes and the familiar grooves of a favorite chair.
Everything at Heirloom Kitchen—a recreational cooking school and retail boutique—is so pretty that customers will want to touch just about everything. The retail portion of the store is beautifully, carefully curated by mother-daughter team Judy Rosenblum and Neilly Robinson, who lay out sparkling French pots and pans, brightly colored table settings, and shining hand-forged knives with an eye to interior design.
Also on-site, a fully equipped demonstration kitchen plays host to an array of informative cooking classes and chef table dinners. Designed to highlight the best of the seasons, as well as focused, artisanal processes, the sessions give students hands-on experience crafting dishes, and they can also sample wines while they work. Lesson topics vary throughout the month, and can sometimes include tips on how to brew the perfect cup of coffee, stretch homemade mozzarella curds and cook up from scratch dumplings and pho.

Students can also learn from professional chefs, such as Francesco Martorella, who specializes in incorporating unique ingredients in ethnic dishes, and earned a nod as one of the city's best new chefs. Star Career's offers training under a variety of umbrellas, from the culinary arts to medical services, including training for medical assistants, paramedics, and dialysis technicians. Founded in 1979, the academy has evolved to offer other programs, too, such as cosmetology and hospitality management.
