At Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park on Saturday, February 22, VIP guests receive special access starting at noon to chow down at several tasting stations, savoring exclusive meaty treats such as gourmet bacon and pork-infused dishes from local eateries. Regular ticket holders can enter the festival at 2 p.m. The event lasts until 6 p.m.
Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival
Forty varieties of bourbon and 60 beer drafts flow freely from taps into souvenir glasses, slaking thirsty throats with unlimited sips as guests tear through smoky meat concoctions at the Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival's tasting stations. Once stuffed with ribs, brisket, and sausage, attendees can retire to the tasting theater to take in a seminar from pit masters and gourmet chefs on preparing fine barbecue or brewing stellar bourbon. Live rock, blues, and bluegrass bands set the airwaves quivering from the main stage with wailing tunes or announcements drawn in barbecue sauce, while a cigar tent provides a smoky haven for puffing on fine tobacco products.
Chesapeake Crab & Beer Festival
On Saturday, August 16, mugs will fill with unlimited tastes of beers by New Belgium Brewing Company, Goose Island, and an array of other breweries at the Chesapeake Crab & Beer Festival. For an additional fee, attendees can indulge in an all-you-care-to-taste menu that includes succulent Old Bay–seasoned crab, corn on the cob, coleslaw, and potato chips. A variety of other snacks will be available for purchase à la carte, and event staff dish out free watermelon slices throughout the day.
In the midst of all the dining and drinking, local and regional bands such as Laissez Foure and Junkyard Saints will entertain crowds with soulful tunes. In response to crowds at previous festivals, organizers have split the event into two sessions, allowing more room to breathe or perform gymnastics floor routines of gratitude.
