George and Dragon English Restaurant and Pub

Pie for dinner. It's something that every child asks for, but few people of any age actually get. Unless you jump across the pond. In England, paired with a pint of beer in a cheery pub, pie becomes a main course, a dessert, and a snack. But George and Dragon English Restaurant and Pub makes transatlantic travel unnecessary, bringing bits of the UK to the Southwest. Classic English cuisine—from bangers and mash to steak and kidney pie—pair with a frosty ale or stout from the drink menu to satisfy native Brits and casual diners alike. And George and Dragon has been serving these traditional British eats for years, celebrating its 19th anniversary in February.

Still, the dining room seems far older in certain places. The stonework fireplace, for example, is guarded from above by the mounted armor and visor of a knight. The bar is also made of stone, recalling a provincial village inn, with flags of UK football teams draped overhead. The pool room hosts games on two felted tables, and retro Union Jacks grace the tabletops near the bar to confuse patrons who've time traveled from the 1600s.

Every time we've been people have been friendly. There's a camaraderie. A Cheers-esque feeling if you will. Important in any neighborhood bar.
