The Deal

Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Presents "España"

Although all of the compositions in "España" are fiery celebrations of Spanish music, the composers all hailed from different countries. Emmanuel Chabrier was French, Manuel de Falla was Spanish, and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov was Russian. Their globetrotting sounds pour from the musicians onstage at Kleinhans Music Hall, a National Historic Landmark lauded for its acoustics. Also joining the orchestra is guitarist Celil Refik Kaya, who snagged top honors at the 2012 JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition. Falletta herself—who also happens to be BPO's Music Director—conducts the concert.

Prior to the performance, guests may pack a picnic to savor near a reflecting pool or visit Buffalo Food Trucks which will be site serving locally culled goodies. Afterward, guests may linger in the Mary Seaton Room and enjoy music by guitarist Joshua Wagner, grab a bite at the trucks, or a drink at the Kleinhans bar.

Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra

Though playing 120 concerts a year is a dream for some musicians, it's a reality for members of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. The classical musicians perform concerts at their home base, Kleinhans Music Hall, as well as throughout the U.S. In doing so, they introduce listeners to music ranging from Tchaikovsky to Duke Ellington, a task they've been up to since the orchestra's founding in 1934. In addition to performing live, they've also released a number of CDs that pay homage to George Gershwin and Bob Dylan, the famous triangle player.
