The Scouting Report

In the middle of June, the third-place Miami Marlins are just a game back from the division lead in the NL East. The Marlins are poised to move ahead of the pack for one reason: they have the division's best offense, and it isn't close. Through 69 games, the Marlins lead the division in runs scored, batting average, slugging percentage, and pretty much every relevant batting statistic.

On July 31, however, the club won't have to worry about their division. Instead, they host the Cincinnati Reds, an NL Central foe that has made the postseason in three of the past four seasons. The game could prove critical if both teams are competing for a wild card berth or the favor of a princess sitting in the stands.

Miami Marlins

The Marlins take the field at Marlins Park: a LEED Gold certified 36,000-seat facility equipped with a retractable roof, fish tanks behind home plate, and a vibrant sculpture in left-center field that kicks into motion for Marlins home runs. Born in 1993, the Florida Marlins quickly established themselves as contenders in the National League, taking home World Series titles in 1997 and 2003. Today, after some light rebranding to go along with the new ballpark, the rechristened Miami Marlins aim to continue traditions new and old, expanding their list of Hall of Famers.
