Tony Kenny's Christmastime in Ireland

One of Ireland's most treasured vocalists ushers in yuletide cheer with some of the Emerald Isle's traditional holiday songs as well as Celtic-tinged takes on international Christmas standards. From "Christmas in Killarney," made famous on Bing Crosby's 1995 release, Merry Christmas, to the singer's own "Come Home to Ireland for Christmas," Kenny sonically replicates a roaring hearth, a sparkling blanket of snow, and the decoy children that convince Santa to leave extra presents. Other seasonal tunes that might fill the air include "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear," "Mrs. Fogarty's Christmas Cake," and "Silent Night." Kenny has also been known to slip a stirring rendition of "O Danny Boy" into his repertoire, as well as welcome on stage an Irish comedian and a troupe of young dancers to perform tradition step-dance routines.

Newberry Opera House

Evincing a history that dates back to 1881 and includes stints as a city jail and a silent-film palace, the 426-seat Newberry Opera House is a spectacle in itself. A recent multimillion-dollar renovation project modernized the institution's eclectic Victorian craftwork by adding state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems and removing the horse-drawn curtain-raising system.
