- $27 for one ticket to the Bootlegger’s Bash and a day pass to the Art Deco Festival on Sunday, August 31 ($54 Value)
The Bootlegger’s Bash takes place from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday night, and features performances by Q’Tease, dancing cabaret dolls performing on the speakeasy dance floor, and Modern Cocktail Society, a 1920’s jazz quartet. Vintage 1920’s–30’s attire is encouraged. The 10th annual Art Deco Festival celebrates the grand interior design of the Queen Mary—a ship considered one of the best examples of art deco style in the world—with a 1920s and ’30s themed festival filled with period music, dancing, cocktails, and art.
Since its maiden voyage in 1936, The Queen Mary has cultivated a colorful history: she transported iconic figures from Winston Churchill to Fred Astaire across the ocean blue, and even served as the world's fanciest troop transport during World War II. However, her historical exploits are more than matched by her modern-day splendor. Now at home in the Port of Long Beach, the venerable ship pairs her art deco trappings with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and nearby city. Guests at the onboard hotel recreate timeless transoceanic luxury during stays in her 346 staterooms (which include nine full suites). Their stays often include multiple trips to onboard restaurants such as the award-winning Sir Winston’s and Chelsea Chowder House & Bar, as well as appearances at the weekly Champagne Sunday Brunch served in the ship’s Grand Salon.
Of course, history remains an important draw for this singular ship. An onboard museum recounts the facts and figures of the ship's glory days, and tours touch upon some of her notable ghostly inhabitants and haunted areas amidships. This combination of contemporary amenities and historical charm make The Queen Mary an in-demand venue for conferences and events; fortunately, the ship boasts 80,000 square feet of event space spread across 17 sumptuous salons, as well as a trilevel, 45,000-square-foot Exhibit Hall.
What some people are buzzing about:
“Plan for a whole day here! So much to see and do, we ran out of time without seeing all we wanted to. Will for sure be back to finish”
“Stop for a drink at the Observation Bar and watch the sunset. It was a beautiful view with a perfectly poured drink. ”
“The ship is a beautiful sight, though it could use better maintenance. Still, it plunges you in the atmosphere of the Art Deco era, and that's wonderful if you're...”
“The ship is a beautiful sight, though it could use better maintenance. Still, it plunges you in the atmosphere of the Art Deco era, and that's wonderful if you're into that sort of thing. Make sure you have a drink at the Observation Bar. Best time to be there is during the SteamPunk convention, as the ship is full of imaginatively costumed people -- great fun. As for Diana's gowns, they were very 80's and somewhat disappointing. ”
