The menu includes homemade onion rings ($8) and a blackened chicken sandwich on fresh-baked french bread stuffed with melted provolone and hand-cut fries ($7).

The Shack

Revered as the "driving force behind The Shack's menu" by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Chef Justin Haifley brings an unorthodox approach to pub classics. For every traditional dish, such as pork belly tacos, he crafts off-the-wall entrees such as tacos stuffed with Cool Ranch Dorito's, chicken, and buttermilk ranch. Ingredients such as peppercorn aioli and bacon jam top burgers ground and seasoned in-house, while creamed spinach and seven-spice buffalo sauce supplement piles of hand-cut fries. 20 draft beers help wash down meals, spewing out of taps in an exposed brick bar filled with flat-screen TVs and tables made from repurposed early 20th century doors and late 1800s barn wood. The pub’s proprietors also included a large patio behind a pair of garage doors, which they've soundproofed against the sound of happy, squealing children.

The Groupon Guide to: Clarinets

Everyone remembers hearing someone say, "If that music doesn't have dozens of clarinets tooting their notes, making the sounds come out of the end that the mouth doesn't go, then no thank you, sir!" Here's why so many people are loving the clarinet:

  • The clarinet has a warm, mellow tone, not like the trumpet, which just sounds like a big pile of garbage that's sitting there stinking it up but also making musical noises.

  • The clarinet is easy on the eyes, with all that straightness. That trumpet has sleek, alluring curves. You want kids looking at that? No, thank you.

  • You can take a clarinet apart. Can you take a trumpet apart? No, not just the mouthpiece. I'm talking about really taking it apart. You can do that to a good ol' woodstraw (a clarinet). Trust me.

  • There are dozens of famous clarinet players, such as Woody Allen and all those men that Woody Allen plays clarinet with. The only trumpet player who is remotely famous is the man whose life inspired the Broadway musical The Music Man, and he's probably dead.

Why is America in love with the clarinet?
