Brianna Chaves has worked on both sides of the lens. A model and actress with several movie and television credits to her name, Chaves is clearly a creative—her photos are just another way for her to put her artistic side to good use. She snaps pictures of families, expectant moms, and newborns, as well as portraits for subjects of all ages.
Professional photographers Jonathan Mathis and Carlos Guzman nurture and support budding photographic talents with their classes and workshops. During the six-hour Point & Shoot digital photography workshop, budding shutterbugs maximize camera potential as an expert instructor discusses the basics of camera operation while shining light on the various camera modes, menus, and zoom features. In both Point-and-Shoot and DSLR camera classes, instructors also cover the fundamentals of editing, cropping, printing, and storing. At the end of each workshop, apprentices review their photos from the session and discuss them as a group, pointing out strengths, weaknesses, and skillfully camouflaged Waldos. Other classes and workshops have included sessions on topics such as studio lighting, documentary photography, and digital editing. Creative Digital Workshops also hosts low-cost lectures and demonstrations to inspire communities to see and capture their worlds through a camera lens.
Rather than capture posed shots, D.C. Photography Studios' shutterbug duo, Scott and Sara, immortalizes spontaneous, candid moments during on-location shoots. With their blend of expertise in photojournalism and fine-art photography, the pair frames portraiture, families, children, and engaged couples with a skillful eye for artistic, visual storytelling. Their main focus, however, remains weddings, where they shoot brief group sessions that leave time for newlyweds to spend on their portraits, socializing with guests, or practicing bouquet tosses by hurtling flower girls across the dance floor. After the sessions, Scott and Sara amass the pictures into a personalized, password-protected online proof gallery from which patrons can select their favorite shots to preserve as various-sized prints or high-resolution digital files.
Quillen Photography's artists excel at capturing newlyweds, graduates, and families amid the sunlit, disparate textures of the outdoors. Their portrait process consists of three appointments. During an initial consultation by phone, in person, or through a series of expressive photographs, photographer and client discuss the shoot's outfits and mood. The photographer then travels to a locale around Clovis for the shoot, and invites the client to the studio to select a final image among the proofs. Digital touchups play down blemishes and lend a monumental majesty to each pose.
In the last 40 years, Portrait Scene's photographers have helped to memorialize special moments in the lives of thousands of children, teens, and adults across the country. By constantly working with families, they have mastered the art of calming toddlers and keeping parents still enough to say or even pasteurize cheese. Outdoor shoots make use of natural tones, such as those of crystal-blue lake waters and green, leafy trees. In the spring months, photos brim with the pastel buds of tulips and the shine of bluebirds applying makeup for the first time all year.
