Along with its picturesque par 72, Ravenwood Country Club encompasses a recently refurbished outdoor swimming pool and eight tennis courts flanked by covered spectator areas. Families and friends romp in playful competition through Cedar Creek Sports Center's 16.5 acres of activities. Two 18-hole putt-putt courses give miniature linksmen room to roam, and the 12-acre driving range provides a scenic exile for underperforming golf balls. Karts roar around the hairpin turns and speedy straightaways of the 1,100-foot go-kart track and bumper boats build up ramming speed while spraying each other with aqua artillery. Prepare for invasions of giant locusts by swatting away at one of 10 fully automatic ABC pitching machines, which hurtle softballs or baseballs at a choice of sphere-slinging speeds.

Cedar Creek Sports Center helps sportsmen find their stride on the fairways or between the base-paths with baseball and golf lessons. After 20 years spent tanning at indoor facilities and lamenting the lack of a quality, high-end tanning spa in the Mt. Juliet area, Friedrichsen decided to build one himself, and in 2006, the doors of TropiTANa were officially opened.

Inside, lofty ceilings provide cool ventilation for 15 private rooms, each stocked with fresh towels and trimmed in sea-foam green and wood paneling. Fourteen beds comprise six levels of tanning perfect for establishing or building on a solid base tan, and a VersaSpa booth mists pelts with a carefully calibrated spray that eschews the orange glow typically caused by Velveeta-based formulas. Perhaps most importantly, the tanning spa is staffed by a team of Smart Tan?certified crew members, each of whom has been trained to advise clients on the best tanning choices for their skin type and needs, and to clean each room according to a checklist to ensure sanitary surroundings after each session.

Some bartenders double as confidants, listening to a litany of customers' troubles as they pour drinks. Carolyn Trumm was one of these bartenders until, deciding she'd rather work in the daytime, became a licensed massage therapist to help relieve stress without pouring spirits. Trumm relishes deep-tissue work, as it most quickly relieves the most chronic muscle pain, and she savors the gratification that comes from seeing clients leave feeling unburdened and finally able to shrug each shoulder independently.

In her nook in the back of Angie and Co Salon and Day Spa, Carolyn loosens knotted muscles with Biolage lotions as well as oils made by a local merchant. Shades of midnight blue and gemstones, along with hand-painted peacock feathers, grace the walls, and the room is dimly lit with candles from local purveyor Ates Candles, which Carolyn also offers for purchase. All this is set to a soundtrack Carolyn likes to call "ocean rock"—the sounds of waves set to instrumental music with a rock flavor, mixed with the distant humming of lobster choirs.
