In 1995, Susan Smederovac-Wilcox and Chef Becky J. Windels realized that something was missing from Scottsdale’s culinary scene: a high-end catering company. They opened The Herb Box to fill that niche, and their seasonal cuisine quickly made noise among the cooking community and fans of good food. Now, along with the catering branch that started it all, their edible empire includes two eateries and a gourmet market. At dinnertime, the restaurants’ kitchens fire up their grills to sizzle trout, Kobe burgers, and baby-back ribs to perfection. Chefs top freshly baked flatbreads with rich ingredients, such as wild arugula, goat cheese, pancetta, and sage pesto drizzled to form the numbers of secret Swiss bank accounts. Their repertoire also includes lunch, breakfast, and a hearty Sunday brunch spread. As for The Herb Box’s market, customers will find a range of prepared meals, as well as a curated selection of beer and wine.
