Krystle Lee grew up riding horses, and when she got to college at William Woods University, her love of equines only deepened—so much so that she wound up graduating with a degree in Equestrian Science. Now a member of the American Riding Instructors Association, she also runs Suncoast Stables, a barn specializing in show training for American Saddlebreds, Hackneys, and Roadsters.
Open to students ages 4 and up, Krystle’s riding lessons unlock the fundamentals of styles including English horseback riding and driving, which mostly involves riding a horse while spinning an imaginary steering wheel. Her summer camps cover similar basics, making each lesson more memorable with an added infusion of arts and crafts. No matter the season, the barn’s spacious boarding quarters house four-legged residents that enjoy two feedings per day, automatic waters, and a daily turnout.
After clients' appointments with their cats or dogs at Sun-Surf Animal Hospital, it's just a short trip to pick up prescriptions—there's a pharmacy in-house. But even if they don't need to make a pit stop for prescriptions, the hospital boasts other conveniences that may come in handy. For instance, its service list spans not only checkups, vaccinations, and bloodwork, but also dental exams, emergency care, and surgery. Plus, the hospital stays open until 8 p.m. on weeknights to accommodate working pet owners and welcomes patients from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
Some customers choose from a colorful array of cookies, donuts, and other delectables on a tiered and crystal-encrusted dessert tray, while others relax and enjoy floor-to-ceiling murals of a picturesque countryside in the indoor dog park. None of them, however, happen to be human—such is the focus on luxury at Royal Pets Market & Resort, where boarding, grooming, training, and adoption services are overseen by an experienced staff. After pampering treatments such as aromatherapy baths or moisture-therapy wraps, dogs and cats can be outfitted from the wide selection of collars, foods, toys, and apparel in the expansive store.
As a girl, Angela Bubley was always bringing home stray dogs and convincing her friends and family to do so, too. She had a true passion for pups, which she later transformed into a career by founding B. Paws-itive Pet Dog Training. The American Kennel Club-certified trainer and Hillsborough County-approved dog obedience instructor leads one-on-one sessions and group training classes that instill consistent, good behavior in dogs. Sessions can take place at clients’ homes, in Angela’s facility, or in a pile of cats for an added challenge.
Crowned with a bright pink pompadour and sporting stenciled spots on its legs, another "creative grooming” client emerges from Beach Groomers Pet Salon & Boutique. Some of these sessions are inspired by trends in Japan, and they’re not for the meek—they give dogs and cats a look as bold as football jerseys with comic sans font. The groomings are a special endeavor for owner Danielle Moyse, a dog owner herself whose core competency is traditional grooming services. Danielle can perform a standard bath and trim hair and nails, and she can add a spritz of cologne and tie a jaunty bandana around her canine or feline client’s neck. She and her staff also pamper pets with spa treatments, such as facials that lift dirt and cupcake sprinkles embedded around mouths and sugar scrubs that exfoliate.
