What made you want to work with food? When did you first develop that passion?
We love providing our customers with generous portions of hand-crafted ice cream.
Are there any dishes on the menu you consider to be a hidden gem?not necessarily the most popular, but surprisingly delicious?
There are several. Our hot Virginia ham would probably be the most common.
In your own words, how would you describe your menu?
We are a '50s-era-style diner. We have been making our own top quality ice cream since 1948. We also offer diner-style food like hamburgers and french fries. We have a signature hot Virginia ham sandwich that has been a customer favorite since 1948. We also offer a rib eye steak sandwich, fish tail sandwich, and homemade soups.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
We also roast fresh peanuts and cashews daily, and we sell delicious Ben Heggy's chocolates.
As a member of the Project Main Street initiative to provide employment and job training for needy Newark community members, Sparta Restaurant & Coffee Shop embraces their local community. Located in a historic diner in downtown Newark, the interior makes it easy to imagine couples from the 1940's huddled into the rich leather booths with coffee and sandwiches. Beneath the pressed tin ceilings, pots of fresh-brewed, direct-trade Central American coffee circulate tables each day, where diners study a breakfast and lunch menu filled with classic breakfast selections, chicken and waffles, and burgers and sandwiches, and salads. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available, along with fruit smoothies and an espresso bar.
At T?s Cones & Coneys, the menu's boardwalk-style fare tastes like summer year-round. T?s specializes in creative hot dogs, such as the Rueben, topped with thousand-island dressing and sauerkraut, and the Lil Spicy Chicago dog, which hides a dollop of coney sauce beneath hot Italian pepper relish. It also serves up grilled sandwiches and subs, all of which partner perfectly with frozen treats such as hand-dipped ice-cream cones, malts, and root-beer floats.
On Mondays, Christian Corner Cafe serves pulled pork and cole slaw. Thursdays, it's meatloaf with mashed potatoes. And on Sundays, the Christian-oriented eatery closes up shop. But any other day of the week, customers can pop into the cozy café for sandwiches, coffee, a full breakfast menu, and baked goods including cakes and muffins. Though all are welcome, this food and drink is served in a Christian-oriented environment, with Bibles and scripture on every table. Christian Corner Cafe is also available to cater.
It'd be perfectly possible to visit Rule 3 every day for a week and never repeat the same activity. A 14-lane bowling alley sits at the core of this entertainment emporium, right next to a scaled-down bowling area with smaller balls and shorter lanes for kids. But bowling is just the beginning at Rule 3. The arcade here is an 8-bit dream come true, hosting no fewer than seven Pac-Man machines.
A half-acre backyard area extends the good times outdoors, with sand-volleyball courts, picnic tables, corn hole, and live music throughout the summer. Of course, all these activities require energy, which is why Rule 3 dishes out all-natural burgers and homemade pizzas..
