Alice Cooper

“Poison” – Live at the Enmore Theatre in Sidney

Alice Cooper taught rock 'n' roll how to be simultaneously frightful and fearless. For more than 40 years, the horror-showman’s killer riffs, menacing vocals, and Grand Guignol stage theatrics have kept a gory wrench lodged in the pop-music machine. Making alter egos and men named Alice cool since the late 1960s, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer first slashed his way into the classic-rock pantheon with immortal hits such as “I’m Eighteen” and “School’s Out.” As his music occupied the airwaves, his stage shows became legendary, loaded with enough carnage, guillotines, mutilated baby dolls, and faux executions to satiate fans’ bloodlust and petrify parents.

Marilyn Manson

When Marilyn Manson’s brooding version of the Eurythmics hit “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” hit the airwaves in 1995, it was the sound of a bona fide shock rocker being born. The singer/performance artist further solidified this status with the twisted rock opera, Antichrist Superstar, driven by the tribal drums and hissing vocals of smash single “The Beautiful People.” But Manson has always valued substance just as much as terror and theatricality. He often laces his industrial metal with social commentary on religion and America’s dual obsessions with beauty and violence. The juxtaposition is fully realized in his stage name, a combination of sex symbol Marilyn Monroe and murderous cult leader Charles Manson. During his live shows, Manson unleashes his boundless energy across the stage, strutting in black bustiers and ripped stockings as his gravelly wail rivets onlookers and awakens napping roadies. Fans can expect hits from his flesh-bound fake book, as well as fanged earworms from 2012’s Born Villain.

The Groupon Guide to: Partying Hard

There’s always one person at every party who’s having the most fun. Here’s how you can be the life of the party and make it an event that people will be talking about until they move on from the partying phase of their lives and buy a nice condo in an up-and-coming part of town:

  • Knock over a bowl of Doritos.
  • Introduce yourself to all of the ladies at the party as Dirty Vito.
  • Tell the DJ you’ll be doing a guest set, then put two pizzas on the turntable.
  • Dance on top of a table to get the crowd going, then forget where you are and start crying until everyone walks away.
  • Kiss the host on the mouth and say “That’s for throwing such a beautiful party.”
  • Take off all of your clothes and jump in the pool. Stay there until you feel like you’re starting to get an infection.
  • Pass out on the couch until you’re woken up by the sound of your parents crying about their house.

Who’s that cool guy who knocked over the Doritos?
