When strolling along South Congress in Austin, it’s not uncommon to find a line extending down the block, with hungry college coeds waiting patiently for a seat at Hopdoddy Burger Bar. While the staff provides liquid relief during hot days, the chalkboard outside the bustling entrance is its own form of refreshment, listing the week’s specialty burger alongside the regulars on the menu. Once inside, high-top wooden polished tables and lime green chairs are scattered throughout, enclosing a large bar. The line continues, but guests can order a milkshake or handcrafted beer to cool off while waiting for one of Hopdoddy’s signature beef burgers, like the Magic Shroom, which features goat cheese, mushrooms and a basil pesto. For those with a bigger appetite, Kennebec and truffle fries are hand-cut every day.
