Service was a little slow, we had to wave down the server several times and I ordered a drink and had to wait to long and someone else brought the drink, server was too busy and had too many tables, we put two round tables together with about eight people, it was pretty tight.

I did not like this restaurant. The food was okay and the price was okay. I had to ask for glassware because they served us drinks in plastic cups. Weird and ackward since I noticed other tables around us all had glassware. I do not want to turn this into a race issue but I noticed minorities were given plastic cups and not actual glasses. I asked the server why our table was served beverages in plastic cups and he stated that there were no clean glasses. This is strange since the place was not crowded or packed. I have several friends that own businesses in this area and downtown as well and specifically in the restaurant/bar industry. I was not impressed with the service or the food. It was mediocre at best. I will not go back or recommend it to anyone I know. Too bad since I work at a university and I am asked for recommendations all the time since I am from here.

The salsa is not hot enough, the chips are not my favorite. Prix Fix theatre meal would be nice. We have been to Hugos 4 times this year. The first time was the Valentine Dinner . Dustin has always been our watier and he is really good! The other people who work their are also very pleasant.

I was stood up by my second party that was meant to share the evening meal and Groupon. So, I was just going to eat a meal on my own, but was told that I had to order (2) meals. The waiter was professional, but not friendly, and I feel as though having a Groupon was part of that. I always tip 20% on the total about of food, regardless of the Groupon, but I guess they did not know that. As I was not "feeling the love", I asked if I could take my food home (to-go), which they allowed. I ordered 2 orders of tacos so that I could redeem my Groupon - and - if they would have been good tacos, all would have been forgotten. But, in a town that knows a good taco, I could have gotten these at Taco Cabana. Really, not impressed. Wish they would have let me order the Pork Ribeye. Won't be going back.

Hugo's, we really love your enchiladas. Using kale in the veggie enchiladas is inspired, and the sauce is peppery and rich. However, the rice and beans were terrible. Please surround your excellent entrees with edible sides.

From Our Editors

Once upon a time, a chameleon named Hugo sat on a balcony watching his owner eat dinner with a glass of Chinaco Anejo. The phone rang, and the owner went inside to answer it. Upon her return, the owner found the glass of Anejo sitting empty next to a satisfied Hugo, a boozy grin on the lizard's face. The next day, the owner again took her dinner on the balcony, but this time she sat down to a savory chameleon steak. This fable is the inspiration for Hugo’s Restaurant Y Tequila Bar—a place where no number of thirsty chameleons could exhaust the stock of more than 75 tequilas.

The chilled tequilas range from familiar to exotic and artisanal, and the menu of Southwestern fare definitely plays to area favorites by using locally grown ingredients. Entrees include duck-confit-stuffed tortillas and chorizo pork rib eye sheathed with a balsamic-blackberry-ancho jam. Though tequila is the star of the drink list at Hugos, diners can also choose from more than 25 beers and a selection of specialty cocktails including a strawberry-basil mojito and a Flamethrower Especial martini, mixed with one part gin and two parts actual flamethrower.
