It was a great learning experience. About to buy a sewing machine. I'm not intimidated about sewing anymore. Mrs. Margaret at the Marine Park location is fabulous. She knows her stuff. You should have a gtoupon for the classes that are $150.

Good prices. Clearer labels of fabric types would be really helpful for sewers

I wish they had the sewing machine needles and the smaller items in a different place so i could look and touch to compare what i needed. The register was very busy with one cashier and a long line so it was frustrating to have to look over the counter and wait to ask her to help while transactions were going on. I asked for bobbins that were behind the counter and when i got home realized it wasn't in my bag, wasn't charged but if I could have got it myself I would've had what I needed, You need bobbins to sew!! It made my shopping time longer. Long line to get fabric cut, I stalled and waited for the line to go down before I went to get my items which is another time waster. There were only one size of pillow inserts and that was my other reason for going there, needed affordable pillows in different sizes (12X12, 16x16, 20X20). Overall they had lots of items i needed for a more reasonable price than other sewing supply places. I live in queens, heard that location was shut down so I went to the Harlem one. I was happy with the fabric selection and prices, i will definitely be back for that. Also saw baking items I would get in the future solely because the prices were right. Cashier was really nice and helpful. I was happy with my haul. I just feel like I can't go there at the wrong time, if it's too busy I will have to wait to get service. Only saw 3 employees total downstairs and one upstairs.

Great store, great fabrics, maybe get a few more staff/registers going during busy hours? But overall no complaints. I would love to see a Save-a-Thon over in South Brooklyn (i.e. Sunset Park/Park Slope/Bay Ridge/Bensonhurst areas.

From Our Editors

Brimming with colorful bolts of fabric, carefully looped skeins of yarn, and rows of sewing provisions, Save A Thon Stores have been supplying New Yorkers with quality crafting necessities since 1973. With fabrics ranging from basic denim to upscale jacquard upholstery cloth from around the world, the shop showcases a range of patterned designs that can be crafted into cozy quilts or a signal to a passing ship that it would have looked better in plaid. Coils of lace ribbons and tubs of colorful beads add a decorative finishing touch to projects, which can be undertaken at home or under the tutelage of the shop's expert crafters during regular sewing classes, while upholstery classes teach students upholstery basics. The teachers are also experts in the Wilton method of cake decorating and can help students artfully embellish cakes and cupcakes with fondant, tiny decorations, and tiny brides and grooms on a dessert destination wedding.
