What we grow to love is sometimes in the hands of fate, as makeup artist Aimee Aquitania, proprietor of All Occasions Artistry, has discovered. In 2011, a car accident left Aimee unable to stand for long periods of time, so she knew she had to find a way to support herself that didn’t require her to be on her feet. After choosing aesthetics, her first makeup gig was for a wedding, and Aimee often looks back with surprise that she, a self-proclaimed tomboy, fell in love with such a delicate art.
In her plum-colored headquarters at Studio 55 Salon Suites, bronze double-sconce lighting illuminates countenances as Aimee enhances features with traditional cosmetics or tattoo-like permanent makeup. In addition to offsite trips to beautify wedding parties or paint faces on coconuts for shipwrecked sailors, she travels to homes to give makeup lessons or overhaul clients’ makeup bags by evaluating each cream, powder, and liner. After a sharp rap on the door, she can be found waiting on porches with a Norvell airbush tanning system to burnish bodies before sugaring and waxing away unwanted hair.
