About Cavalla Historical Foundation - Galveston Naval Museum

Galveston Naval Museum welcomes all who are willing to immerse themselves in the nation's heritage. It offers a chance to explore historic World War II vessels and learn how the sailors used to live and fight there when they were patrolling underwater in the Pacific and protecting allied forces in the North Atlantic. Guests can explore inside the USS Cavalla (SS-244), a Gato-class submarine that sank the Japanese aircraft carrier involved in the Pearl Harbor attack, or on USS Stewart (DE-238) which is the only remaining Edsall-Class Destroyer Escort in the United States. They may choose to do it with one of the tour guides or alone during a self-guided tour.

Great experience! I love how they have the submarine more air conditioned and how they keep restoring more of the ship.

It was overall a nice experience. Great to see the inside of a submarine. It helps you respect what they do and the sacrifices they pay. God bless the US military forces. God keep the ones presently on active duty. Many thanks to the retired and departed ones.

It was very nice to be able to walk aboard the submarine and ship and see where these men worked and how they lived.

Friendly staff. Very clean grounds. The ship and submarine were very interesting. It was worth the visit. The park and picnic area at the point were also nice. The kids and adults enjoyed the experience. The guys even fished off the boardwalk.
