About Del's Twisted Kitchen

In Scott Burford's words, his father Del "was a 'foodie' before it was cool." Raised on Southern home cooking in a family that was passionate about food, Burford's path to chef and restaurateur seems to be a clear one. At Del's Twisted Kitchen—named, of course, after his dad—Burford has crafted a menu as unique and colorful as the restaurant's unusual exterior, from the Baja shrimp tacos to bread pudding french toast drizzled with rum-caramel sauce.

We bought the Groupon just to try out the restaurant that replaced the Metro Burger. Slow lunchtime service. Food was 6 or 7 on a 10 scale. Relatively expensive menu items. Dining without the Groupon could be too costly. Waitress saw the Groupon and picked it up at the beginning of the meal, never telling us for sure that there was an unused balance nor giving us the opportunity to apply any unused balance to a dessert or something else. Lots of extra trips to get forgotten items, each taking too long so hot things became cold. We never got a real check to see how much the total bill was, but I'm sure it was less than the Groupon. I had planned to spend more than the Groupon to be sure I had a bill so I could leave a tip on my credit card, but since the waitress never gave us that opportunity, we finally decided she would have to be content with the unused portion of the Groupon because we had to leave to do other things. You would think the Mgmt would point out to the staff that they need a good way to get tips from customers with Groupons and credit cards, but no cash. The restaurant appeared to be trying to get its act together, but was not doing a good job of it the day that we were there. We had other errands to do, but the meal too so long that we had to skip them. The purpose of offering Groupons is to bring in new customers who will return without Groupons, but that works only if management takes good care of those customers. There are so many other good dining choices in the area that I doubt we will return. As a senior reviewer for Trip Advisor, I decided to skip my review for them of Del's Twisted Kitchen and hope that others with a more positive experience would write about it and I would find out our experience was not typical.
