I've been here a few times and they are always understaffed. I looked online to see what time they opened and the website said 3pm(we went on a Monday)When we saw the sign telling us to go through the front entrance we were surprised that it was locked. We went to the next door & it was also locked. There were 2 open signs and neither of them were plugged in. The 3rd door to the bar was open and we found our own seats in the bar. I was already comfortable in this area with my kids because I have been here before, but would have thought it strange had I have been a first time guest coming to what I thought was a restaurant with a groupon to be used on Mon- Thurs. the waitress doesn't write anything down and in turn forgot our frozen drinks. Not surprising since she was handling the entire bar area. It is a gorgeous facility but we spent most of our time waiting for our food, drinks and then check.

Our waiter Chris made fantastic suggestions! Order the Mahi-Mahi for sure and wash it down with a Painkiller specialty cocktail, which doubles as dessert!!

From Our Editors

It all began with a young wanderer named Ernest Gantt. Inspired by the culture of the South Pacific, where he sometimes worked on film sets, he opened a small watering hole just off Hollywood Boulevard in the mid-1930s. He decorated it with old fishing nets and trinkets he’d picked up during his travels to the South Pacific and created a menu of exotic rum drinks, which he etched onto a board hanging behind the thatched tiki bar. Back then, drinks cost a quarter, or five wooden nickels.

Today, Don The Beachcomber still serves some of Ernest’s original rum cocktails—including his signature mai tai—in a tiki lounge inspired by that 1930s watering hole. A few things have changed over the years, however; the joint now serves a full menu of Hawaiian specialties such as ahi-tuna tacos and Kalua pulled pork piled on sweet a hawaiian bun. On Friday nights, live musicians perform Hawaiian tunes next to an indoor waterfall.
