The afternoon tea was a disaster. Too crowded/overbooked, flies on the food, food ran out, tables were dirty, shall I go on?

I took my mother in law to the tea as part of a christmas present. We both left very disappointed. The price was way too high for what we received. I've been to tea in many different places. To pay 12.50 for tea, 3 small pastries and 2 small sandwiches was way too much. Generally, you are able to select to have additional pastries/sandwiches, but we would have been charged 1$ per extra sandwich. Lastly, I pad the same price for the groupon that people paid at the door. I thought groupon deals were to give discounts not advertise something that is the same exact price at the door.

Although my friends and I enjoyed the tea and conversation we all felt it could've been so much better! Some constructive criticism for the mgmt team... put a butler door into the kitchen so you don't look in and see the craziness while you're trying to relax and get your tea. The mansion is absolutely beautiful so decorate it that way. The gorgeous entry woukd look so grand with a tall thin Christmas tree. It looked as if it was really low budget and most of the food was from Costco. If I would've paid $25 for my ticket, I would've been greatly disappointed. You've got a great start, I think if you change some things women will make this a Christmas tradition and come year after year.

It's not something I would have known about, but when I saw the groupon I thought it would be a really neat/special thing to do with my daughters! We had a great time!

I first had tea at Van Noy on October 16, and then redeemed a gift I was given for tea on the 13th of November. The tea treats were quite a bit better on the 13th, not sure if it was because we were there earlier on the 13th, but if the 16th was my only experience I would not have recommended it.

Really enjoyed our afternoon tea and learning about Van Noy Mansion. The tea selection was very good, the food was delicious, and the setting was beautiful. The only draw-back was the very small portions. I understand that tea is not a heavy meal, but I would have preferred to have a couple more finger sandwiches.

From Our Editors

A circular driveway leads to the towering white columns that frame the entrance of Van Noy Mansion, built in the early 20th century for a wealthy railroad family. Two and a half acres of 100-year-old oak trees, manicured shrubs, and verdant landscape surround the estate, and guests are invited to take photos and explore the grounds. General manager James Michael summarizes the mansion's beauty by saying, "You have to see it to believe it. When people walk in for the first time, their jaws drop."

Original woodwork lines the mansion's interior, which is ornamented by stained-glass windows and a series of original murals portraying a courtship. A dramatic wooden rotunda with a second-level landing gives guests space to snap photos or drop buckets of molasses and feathers on late arrivals. Stepping out on the second-story balcony, guests can occasionally hear faint elephant trumpets from the neighboring zoo intermingled with real trumpets carried on the breeze from the nearby Starlight Theatre. The historic 5,000-square-foot mansion plays host to up to 1,000 guests for indoor and outdoor weddings receptions, holiday parties, and charitable events, with food services available from a list of preferred caterers.
