As a child, Daniel Manrique spent his summers in San Bartolo, Peru, where he watched the local fishermen rise at dawn to cast their lines off the town's small fishing wharf. Decades later, his affinity for the sea has shaped the menu at his Segundo Muelle restaurants, which serve up Peruvian dishes as well as items with Asian and Italian influence. The beauty of the sea may have had an impact on the menu as well. Its sushi rolls are artfully constructed, its grilled octopus fried golden and arranged in impressive spirals. And Manrique's cuisine doesn't just come from the sea—it has also traveled across it. From its Peruvian origin, the restaurant has now spread to locations in Spain, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and the United States.
