Be prepared for the different and unusual. Excellent service and presentation. Environmental focus. Go early so you can read the menu and the many framed articles about the owner hanging on the walls

You will not regret putting yourself in the chef's hands and trying the most inventive sushi you'll ever eat. The story telling menu and emphasis on sustainability are delightful as is the service.

Very interesting and unique meal. Very attentive server despite being pretty busy. Highly recommend the groupon. I would like to come back to try more exotic foods.

My fiance and I have been to Miya's many times before. In fact, we met there for our first date so that place is very special to us. On the night we used the groupon, the food was amazing as always, but the service was actually pretty bad. I have never once had a complaint about Miyas, but I was definitely upset with the service. I ordered a drink and it never came, ultimately had to cancel the order. I told him I was allergic to shellfish and somehow one of the courses that came out had shellfish in it. (I didn't eat it and he immediately replaced it with tofu, but still, I made it very clear that I was allergic.) We were pretty much ignored after the special rolls came out and no matter how many times we told him we needed to leave soon, the last two courses took over 30 minutes to come out. He didn't think to drop off the check with dessert, and then we couldn't get him to come back to pick up the check and had to go find him ourselves. Would definitely go back there for the food, but I hope we don't get him as our server again.

From Our Editors

"In each recipe of mine," says James Beard-nominated chef Bun Lai, "ingredients from disparate cultures are combined, symbolizing what is possible when people of the world live in harmony with one another." That might sound like a grandiose statement to make about dinner, but magazines such as Food and Wine, Saveur, Eating Well, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Scientific American, and Outside Magazine can vouch for the chef's ambitions to change how the world thinks about food. Both magazines have celebrated Miya's Sushi's blend of Chinese, Japanese, and American avant-garde culinary techniques.

Having been featured on TV networks such as Food Network, ABC, NBC, Fox, and National Geographic for his unprecedented commitment to creating truly sustainable sushi, Chef Bun has forgone traditional ingredients such as tuna, shrimp, yellowtail, farmed eel, and even white sushi rice. Instead, as detailed on his upcoming 2015 major network series, he wraps invasive species such as lionfish and feral hog meat in unprocessed multigrain rice. The results delight New Haven County palates seeking new sushi flavors while also checking the spread of their source within delicate ecosystems?a huge relief for fish throughout the world.
