Cream of the Crop, Omaha

A roadside produce stand sits in a parking lot off of 77th and Cass Streets in Omaha. Garden aficionado Karen Kruse runs this roadside produce stand—a large tent and a white truck—with fruits and vegetables that are picked daily at local farms. Her selection changes throughout the summer season but almost always includes sweet corn, melons, tomatoes, peppers, and peaches. For a complement to meals, try one of her locally made jellies or honey. Mama Hoots Salsa is made daily by Kruse and other family members. The stand is open, weather permitting, from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Monday to Sunday.
