The gold rush might be over, but visitors to the Sierra Nevada foothills can still try their luck on the challenging course at Apple Mountain Golf Resort. In the shadow of majestic snow-capped mountains, the greens cut through a fresh-air landscape of pine, cedar, and madrone trees. Starting from a challenging par 4 known as the "GoldSeeker," the 18-hole course boasts some unique terrain such as the downhill steps of "Strike It Rich" and the deceptively difficult "Mother Lode."

Very fun and very challenging par 70. Bring your "A" target golf game. This is NOT a newbie's course even if you play from the front-most tees...lots of elevation changes and uneven lies even in the middle of the fairway. We played behind a group of beginners and they quickly realized it was going to be a long day and let us through on the 2nd hole. The bummer part is carts are not allowed on all sections of the fairway, I'm assuming, because of the steep grade or no where to exit closer to the green. Makes for a lot of walking if you don't hit the exact shot you envisioned...you'll get to burn some calories! ;-)

Course was challenging and had beautiful views. It was 100 degrees and they didn't let you bring a cooler even thou they wasn't a drink cart.
