The owner of Instacart decided to design a mobile app and website where people could easily browse a large selection of products and receive them on their doorstep soon thereafter. From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, Instacart processes virtual grocery lists and sends trained delivery staff to local supermarkets. The items are then delivered within three hours, after a text message alerts the buyer's smartphone or carrier pigeon that the order is on its way. All groceries are sourced from Safeway and Trader Joes. Alex Wilhelm of The Next Web tried out the service, which he described as "easy" and rated five stars.
