About Orange County Register

The Orange County Register has three Pulitzer Prizes to its name, but then again, it's had plenty of time to collect them. Founded in 1905, the daily newspaper has won journalism's top honor for its photographs of the 1984 Olympics, its military-affairs coverage in 1989, and its 1995 investigative reporting on unethical practices at a UC Irvine fertility clinic. Besides incisive analysis of local and national news and thoughtful culture coverage, the paper's Knowledge Cafe connects readers directly to experts, professionals, and specialized organizations—so anyone can get investment tips from a financial institution, medical information from a hospital, or recommendation for crystal-ball maintenance from a psychic.

Good paper, but the reason for this review is how Groupon handles it. 1. You can't search Groupon for "Orange County Register" or use any reasonable words like newspaper or subscription. Only thing that seems to work is using Google search like "groupon orange county register". This has gone on for years. 2. The deal terms force you to cancel your subscription before the OC Register people try to renew it at the normal non-Groupon rates, then you must wait for 30 or 60 days to drop out of their system, then buy the Groupon and come back in as a new subscriber. Also gone on for years. 3. This one applies only to the several thousand people in my zip code. 92878 is adjacent to Orange County on the map, if you've got the updated maps because the zip code was changed in July 2020. But we're not on the list that the Groupon is currently valid for. So, I had to just call up the OC Register customer service, cancel my subscription AGAIN, and tell them I probably won't be back. Because in the 30 or 60 days that I can't get the paper via a Groupon, I may just decide I can live without it. And I may forget to do the Google search, and get frustrated that I can't find the deal using Groupon's own search. Or I may find that the zip code list is still broken and ignores the city of Corona right over the county line. Happy with the product, happy with the delivery for the most part, unhappy with how it's handled by Groupon.

I get my daily notifications from OC Register, but when I go to read the paper online, it says I have reached my article limit. When I try to verify my account, they don't recognize me (because I purchased on Groupon???)
