I think trying to find a cooler storage for your wine would benefit both the wine and the diner. I found the empanada a bit "dry", but enjoyed the flavors. We liked the experiment and will be back. Thanks.

I have eaten in about 5 Peruvian Restaurants in the area. This was awful. Presentation bad. All white plate - no green or vegs in sight. Shrimp soup had 8-10 shrimp heads in it - no egg, frozen small carrots & peas. Empanada good pastry limited filling - nothing else on plate. Fish swimming in white, gloopy sauce - almost tasteless. I think the chocolate cake was commercial.

My companion's shrimp was not good...it had an ammonia smell and tasted pretty awful, but our waitress took it back and gave her another dish.

The owner should offer an entre of Ceviche as a meal with larger portion and sides

Too bad it's in a non-descript strip mall.....walking by you don't expect much. But food is much better than location.

The restaurant is much more appealing on the inside than it looks from the outside, but once the food arrives all else is forgotten.

Night time prices are probably too high for the location, especially being next door to Gecko's. The food and service were really good, you'll have to be more competive with the pricing...in my opinion.

Good location with authentic food and great attention to customers. Love the accents from servers.

Aji de gallina is one of my favorite Peruvian dishes. I order it at least once at every Peruvian restaurant that we visit. At Mayta's, it was terrible. There was hardly any spice to it at all, and the sauce was gummy. My husband ordered a "spaghetti" dish that was strange to say the least. The upcharge to add chicken gave him about 2 oz of limp (think pre-cooked frozen) dry chicken. The sauce on the pasta had a very strange after taste. In addition, there were two Peruvian beers on the menu, but only one available.

Less than mediocre food and prices are higher than most every other restaurant of its type. Perhaps that is how they make up for the Groupon. I would not return.

From Our Editors

The ambience at Mayta's Peruvian Restaurant is as vibrant and welcoming as the food. The mahogany-toned wooden chairs and bar complement the peach- and lavender-colored walls, which occasionally resound with live music. Colorful abstract and equine-inspired artwork gives the space an inviting vibe. Chefs cover the marble-topped tables with classics such as egg- and raisin-filled beef empanadas and sirloin steak sautéed with aji peppers. The culinary team also prepares fresh homemade pizza and pasta, including sweet-potato gnocchi in a four-cheese sauce.
