About Cedars Restaurant on Broadway
Named after the evergreens bristling at the eastern edge of the Mediterranean, Cedars opened in 1975 as a Lebanese deli serving Middle Eastern cuisine. Its menu would soon expand in an unexpected direction, though, when, in 1980, the Indian Chef Gupta came on board, bringing with him a spread of Indian and Pakistani dishes.
While that explains the eclectic mix of food found at Cedars—such as tandoori prawns, gyro, and falafel—the welcoming ambiance that marks both of the restaurant's locations owes to the hospitality of its owners, the same family that has run Cedars since day one.
