I had such a great time learning how to make my first sewing project, a large cosmetic bag. The instructor was encouraging of me when I got confused and had me practice threading the machine until I became less intimidated. Highly recommend. Easy walk from Penn Station or the West 34th Street subways.

A great experience for my 17 year old daughter and I. We signed up for the class the same week. A basic class got me comfortable to sit at the machine and use it with confidence after years in my closet. Danny was a superb teacher. No sitting around listening to someone talk on and on. Both of us enjoyed the class and will sign up for different classes over the summer. Thank you Danny and Wanda!

It was great! Perfect for beginners. We reviewed parts of the machine, how to thread and straight stitching. We used all the techniques learned to make a small bag with a zipper closure in the end.

The course was great. Danny was a great instructor, very thorough. He took his time to explain what we needed to individually understand. The classes are a perfect size, only 6 students at a time. The facilities are clean and that includes the restroom and I'm really paranoid about public restrooms so that was good. The $10 materials fee covered the price for the fabric and the zipper. In the class I took we made a pouch. If you bring your own materials you don't need to pay the fee. However, if you do bring your own materials make sure you bring exactly what it says in the course description. I loved my end result. I ended up with a fabulous pouch and I intend to take more classes there.

From Our Editors

Each era has its own distinct style, whether it's the flapper fashions of the Roaring Twenties or the bell-bottomed disco inferno of the 1970s. Yet, as colorful, irreverent, and chest-hair friendly as certain fashions have been over time, they all originated from a humble needle and thread. "Sewing," as co-owner and co-founder of Esaie Couture Design School Wanda Bruno says, "is totally creative, but practical. It's one of those skills that you have for a lifetime."

Wanda's first foray into the fashion world was as a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she studied tailoring and menswear. The specificity and accuracy tailoring required established a firm foundation for her skills, which she used to land roles on design teams at Calvin Klein, Brooks Brothers, and Ralph Lauren, where she worked during the launch of Polo Sport in the early 1990s. No matter her place of employment, her style philosophy remained timeless: "Ill-fitting clothes throughout the ages will never look good. A good fit is tremendously important."

Wanda now shares her tailoring talents with the homemakers, hobbyists, and aspiring designers who populate her school. There, instructors reveal sewing basics during intensive single-day workshops and teach new skills. During long-term workshops ranging from four or six weeks to three or six months, students build skills that help them construct career paths in the fashion industry or to start their own businesses.
