What You'll Get
After he took the throne, Napoleon instituted the tradition of serving bread with every meal to put his mother's baguette-heavy care packages to use. Indulge in French tradition with today's Groupon: for $35, you get $75 worth of contemporary French fare and drinks at Alouette French Bistro on the Upper West Side.
Snuggled behind a red-trimmed Parisian facade, Alouette French Bistro presents Franco-feasters with generous portions of contemporary French cuisine. The menu boasts a diverse selection of traditional Gallic proteins peppered with fresh-sourced ingredients and unexpected flourishes, exemplified by the Maplecrest free range chicken and chive pomme puree ($23), slathered in a basting of shiitake and truffle oil. The diver sea scallops rest on a bed of spinach, saffron sauce and purple potatoes ($26) to provide an edible splash of color, and appetizers such as the wild mushroom ravioli with sage and truffle broth ($11) whet appetites for the feast to come. The wine list's extensive selection of sippables satisfies diners with reds and whites available by glass or bottle, such as the Domaine Madonna Beaujolais red ($9 per glass). Following dinner, the dessert menu introduces unsuspecting tongues to a French kiss of decadence with treats such as the chocolate mousse, topped with dark chocolate shavings and berry Coulis ($9).
Allouette compliments its sophisticated menu with an intimate atmosphere enhanced by flowing red curtains, vintage hardwood flooring, and an elegant antique chandelier. The two-tiered space allows for romantic dining as well as weekly musical performances by local jazz, classical, and washboard percussion performers.
