What You'll Get

While art can often express feelings words can’t, words are still better at rhyming, constituting grocery lists, and quickly warning clowns about incoming banana-cream pies. Take advantage of image expression with today’s Groupon at Art in the Dairy. Choose from the following options:

  • For $50, you get a make-and-take glass class for one person (a $100 value).
  • For $90, you get a make-and-take glass class for two people (a $200 value).
  • For $175, you get a make-and-take glass class for four people (a $400 value).<p>

Located at the airport exit of I-485, Art in the Dairy educates the Carolinas about glass art with the help of artist, teacher, and speaker Rose Hawley. In the make-and-take class, Hawley informs students about the properties, behavior, and reactions of glass in order to prepare participants to craft their own colorful works of art. Students then create their own pieces using 25 square inches of glass, choosing between a small bowl design or a hanging piece. After class, students can decorate their homes with their glass art, or use it as a cautionary tale to keep curious sand away from fire.

About Art in the Dairy

When Black’s Dairy building was built in 1940, its sole purpose was to produce milk for people in the surrounding community. Though the horse carts no longer make their rounds to the neighborhoods, the building still serves to nourish the members of the community. Guest instructors frequently host classes at the working art studio, sharing their expertise with mediums such as glass, metal, and clay. Students can flex their creative sides in workshops on topics such as glass fusing, glass blowing, clay throwing, silversmithing, and basic metal welding while also socializing with Art in the Dairy’s chickens or Franklin, the studio’s goat-in-residence.
