The owner-chefs of Asian Outpost aren't just inspired by a particular style of cuisine—rather, their inspiration comes from the legacy of their Asian immigrant ancestors, who first set foot on American soil at the turn of the 20th century. Over the decades, that legacy manifested in the communal meals served at their family gatherings.
Now the owners pass these family meals on—along with a slew of original Asian-American fusion dishes—at their intimate restaurant, featured in Chicago Magazine's Hot List and by Dr. Sandy Goldberg for its healthy dishes. This small space fills with the aromas of hearty ramen bowls of spiced broth, slices of pork belly, and assorted vegetables. An array of small plates, such as squash dumplings and chicken yakitori skewers, are made specifically for sharing. Touches of rustic decor complement the simple dishes: old cabinets display antique lanterns and colorful ceramics, and framed chalkboards are scrawled with upbeat messages.
