- $10 for admission to Carnevale Fantastico! on May 14 and 15 ($16 value)
The Italian renaissance and cultural festival Carnevale Fantastico! descends on Blue Rock Springs Park the weekend of May 14–15, complete with tasty Italian cuisine, theatrical performances, and a market of artisan wares.
Carnevale Fantastico! is a Renaissance fair, but it doesn’t offer the standard fare, such as jousters waving turkey legs and saying "knave." It's specifically an Italian Renaissance faire that whisks audiences to the vibrant days of the 16th century, when all of Italy was erupting in music, art, fashion, food, and frivolity. Here are just some of the things you can expect from this carnival of the fantastic.
- The Theater: The Fantastico! stage is one of four stages that keeps audiences in stitches with a stream of commedia dell'arte (the improv sketch comedy of the 16th century) shorts, live musical performances of traditional Italian music, and jubilant dance troupes.
- The Cuisine: Feast like a famished Michaelangelo on wood-fired pizza, cannoli, polenta, meatball sandwiches, tortellini, Italian sausages, and more.
- The Market: Shop for handcrafted glass, ceramic, woodcrafts, and handcrafted trinkets, buy a new mask, and let the wee ones enjoys kids activities such as face painting.
