About Chabot Space & Science Center

Chabot Space & Science Center is a non-profit institution and community resource located on 13 trail-laced acres in Redwood Regional Park in Oakland amid the largest stand of coastal redwoods in the East Bay. Museum hours are currently Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. On June 22, the Center will be open Wednesday-Sunday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Chabot features a 241-seat full dome planetarium, interactive and hands-on exhibits, space artifacts, a giant screen theater, and the largest research-level observatory complex, featuring three large scale telescopes, regularly available to the public for weekly live viewing in the Western United States. Chabot Space & Science Center features great indoor and outdoor exhibitions for all ages. Visitors can look forward to The NASA Experience in Studio 1.

The NASA Experience is a hands-on exhibition that brings to life the thrilling, challenging and inspiring process of scientific discovery by showcasing the real stories and people at NASA’s Ames Research Center. Visitors step into the role of a NASA scientist through embarking on hands-on challenges, exploring more than 30+ objects that showcase Ames’ past and future, and getting to know real NASA scientists. In Studio 2, Going the Distance explores how humans are expanding our boundaries by moving farther into the Universe than ever before. With inspiration and content provided by NASA’s Ames Research Center, Caltech’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Planet, and SpaceX, the exhibit traces our journey through the cosmos, and where we are headed.

Chabot's Observation Deck invites visitors to observe the world around them in new ways. Opened in April 2018, the 3200 sq. ft. exhibition area features 12 interactive stations. The Observatory Deck expansion was made possible through Measure WW funds. Exhibits were designed and built by the Exploratorium. Chabot’s mission is to inspire and educate learners of all ages about the Universe and Planet Earth.
