As the season grows colder and dares to be drearier, a bite of southern goodness sounds better, cozier, and melty-mac-and-cheesier. Today's Groupon gets you $25 worth of gut-warming southern favorites and stiff drinks at Delta Cafe, a hushpuppy-serving, Creole gumbo–cooking restaurant that heats you quicker than a burning barrel of unrefined oil.

Wrap yourself in a foodquilt whose first patch was sewn back in 1994. The Delta Cafe's recipes have hit their 15th birthday, giving them plenty of experience delighting taste buds with their edible southern drawl. Enjoy a smoked barbecue brisket full of 15-year-old vigor and rebellion ($12.95). For an honest, unflappable, and large bite of home-style love, there’s Better Than Mom’s Fried Chicken ($12.95), jambalaya (with chicken, shrimp, and sausage, smothered in fresh, warm veggies, $13.95), the dignified crawfish etouffe (in a garlic and bell-pepper cream sauce, $12.95), and for those to whom meats sing not, a tasty tofu a la sauce piquante ($11.95). Round off an entree with a $6 starter of famous mac 'n' cheese.

There’s a weekend brunch option for all of the indecisive sleep-ins torn between a beautifully deep-fried basket of beignets ($5) and vegan grits (mixed with toasted pecans and organic maple syrup, $4). Sealing the deal are the house-made cocktails, such as the famous Hey Ya, an array of local microbrews, and a 40-ounce bucket of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Use your Groupon during happy hour all night on Tuesdays and on Mondays through Thursdays, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The Delta Cafe bar is its own creature, from its eclectic menus to its voodoo-esque lounge covered in art riding the rails from funky to fancy. Your eyes will be entertained while your stomach waits to be sated. Right by Lutz Tavern on Woodstock, this local find is worth finding by topographic map. Leave the plastic at home because the Delta only accepts cash, check, thirst, hunger, and gold bullion made out of chocolate made out of silver.
