In much of the world, soccer is known as "football" and the American president is referred to as "The Ameriking." Embrace cultural differences without using your hands with today's Groupon: for $12, you get two popcorns, two drinks, and two general-admission tickets (a $27 value) to the Des Moines Menace's season opener against the St. Louis Lions on Saturday, May 14. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m. at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines.
As the 2005 champions of the Premier Development League, the Des Moines Menace open their 18th season by taming their Heartland Division rivals, the St. Louis Lions. Throughout the 90 minutes of fierce competition, players chase and foot-pummel the soccer ball down the field in an effort to score goals and show off their designer shin guards to the crowd. The Menace's roster contains some of the country's top amateur players, with more than 10 of the team's alumni having graduated to Major League Soccer.
The Menace are also committed to enriching the future of Des Moines' youth, hosting soccer camps and tournaments for young players and autographing fans' permission slips after every game.
