At the Dojo Karate studios throughout the Twin Cities, instructors officially teach karate, also known as Westernized Korean taekwondo. However, below the surface of their self-defense classes—which cater to kids as young as 3—lie the building blocks of a happy life, equally essential to future fighters and future farmers.
The team knows, it too. Its training sequences prepare students not only to earn a black belt, but to earn a "black belt in life," as the dojo puts it. That's thanks to the workout's positive side-effects: improved self-confidence, better discipline, and a steady exercise regimen. Classes at Dojo Karate not only improve students' ability to fight off attackers, but also to conquer hurdles such as bullying, fatigue syndromes, and a crippling fear of colored belts.
