Featuring an interior that recently emigrated from the Emerald Isle, Dublin Square Irish Pub embodies a genuine Gaelic oasis with two full-service bars, cozy private tables, and a rich menu of traditional pub favorites. Appetizers include the Dublin hush puppies, where Guinness-battered corned beef and potatoes slip into a business-casual shoe of horseradish sauce to perform a lively Riverdance with other starters, such as the parmesan-crusted baked blue crab and brie. The Belfast fillet tips, rich with the flavors of garlic and plum sauce, perch atop a mound of jasmine rice and leeks, and the chicken Ramona—stuffed with spinach, herbs, and cream cheese—luxuriates in mustard cream. Much like a lavish garden wedding, turnips, celery, carrots, and onions revel in a rich sherry sauce within the golden brown crust of the Lanebourough shepherd's pie, officiated by succulent lamb. Nineteen craft beers lurk behind the two full-service bars, and a UN of wines resolve their petty differences with a hearty toast.
Boasting a hand-carved mahogany bar and artifacts culled from the historical St. James Gate Brewery, Dublin Square bathes patrons in the essence of Ireland better than a tub full of Lucky Charms. The grand exterior of Dublin Square’s 72-year-old edifice belies the inside’s warm, welcoming vibe and friendly, lingering ghostmaster generals. Sports fans can gaze adoringly into the jumbo HDTV screen, and music lovers can lap up live entertainment. Check the website for the event calendar for the latest happenings.
Dublin Square Irish Pub & Restaurant
In 2006, the founders of Dublin Square Irish Pub & Restaurant followed through on their longtime vision of bringing a small piece of their homeland to East Lansing—literally. Much of the pub's interior decor was gathered or built in Ireland then transported some 4,000 miles to its new home in Michigan. That includes the hand-carved mahogany bar, which was reassembled on-site by the same craftsmen who built it across the pond, where the wood would otherwise have toiled in obscurity as an ornate armoire.
Surrounded by these Irish relics, the pub's visitors can truly celebrate the craic—a term for the camaraderie and good cheer that abounds in a welcoming pub. They can also dig into classic Irish dishes, such as bangers and mash, a dish consisting of locally made Irish sausage, crispy haystack onions, and a side of Guinness mustard. The menu honors American favorites, too, including New York strip steaks and pizza. All of these meals come together over rounds of drinks that range from draft beers to international wines.
