About Firearms Instructor
A decorated veteran for his service as a US Marine Corps infantry platoon leader in Vietnam, Steve Eichelberger knows firsthand the responsibilities of carrying a firearm in the field. As an emeritus instructor at the Oregon Firearms Academy, and a current police firearms instructor, the NRA-certified teacher also knows his way around the classroom. He draws on both these experiences at Firearms Instructor, where his students learn the same handgun skills practiced at the police academy via a mixture of classroom instruction and hands-on lessons.
During private or group live-fire sessions at a local range, Steve demonstrates the five fundamentals of marksmanship to first timers and more-complex skills—such as shooting while moving or tactical reloads—to advanced pupils. He covers similar topics, as well as a gun safety and cleaning, during concealed-carry courses, which qualify graduates to apply for a concealed-carry license in Oregon. A practicing attorney, Steve also hosts the What Do I Do? class series, during which he discusses gun owners' moral, ethical, legal, and tactical responsibilities when it comes to discharging their weapon.
