What You'll Get
Before the advent of sci-fi conventions, fans that wanted to immerse themselves in alternate worlds were forced to bathe in melted-down Star Wars DVDs. Take a hassle-free dunk into other realities with today’s deal for admission to the Albuquerque SciFi and Horror Expo at the Albuquerque Convention Center on Saturday and Sunday, August 6 and 7. Doors open at 10 a.m. each day. Choose from the following options:
• For $2, you get one kids’ day pass (a $5 value).
• For $7, you get one adult day pass (a $15 value).
• For $25, you get two weekend passes, good for both days (a $50 value).
The Albuquerque SciFi and Horror Expo surrounds fans with likeminded aficionados of the spooky and futuristic. Actors such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Charisma Carpenter, Star Trek’s Walter Koenig, and Terminator 2’s Edward Furlong will be on hand for autograph signings, giving fans memorable keepsakes of admired thespians without having to risk stealing their signed receipts. Cosplay is encouraged, allowing fans to dress up as favorite characters, and an alien-costume contest gives aspiring extraterrestrials the chance to win $100 on each day of the expo. Warhammer 40,000 and Magic: The Gathering tournaments let gamers pit fantastic armies against one another, and booths overflowing with merchandise let convention-goers load up on posters, books, and figurines before they’re proudly displayed in box-bound mint condition or posed in dramatic reenactments of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles.

About Albuquerque Comic Con
Usually, it's pretty hard to get Batman and Spider-Man in the same room. Fortunately, the Albuquerque Comic Con doesn't have any typical rooms. The annual convention's cosplay contest fills the Albuquerque Convention Center with fanmade costumes representing comic book characters heroic and villainous, famous and obscure. After making their way through the throng of caped crusaders, visitors can panels hosted by comic book legends. Honored guests at this year's convention include famed X-Men scribe Fabian Nicieza, Mad Magazine mainstay Sergio Aragonés, and Wolverine co-creator Len Wein. The con also has guests from outside the comics multiverse; luminaries from the film and television world include Babylon 5's Claudia Christian, Birds of Prey's Rachel Skarsten, and character actor Deep Roy. The convention also include vendor booths, where retailers hawk everything from rare back issues to a half-eaten stop sign rumored to belong to Matter Eater Lad.
