Conceived and compiled online by more than 20 Shakespeare enthusiasts, Bard Fiction transposes the plot and characters of Quentin Tarantino’s classic film Pulp Fiction to the Bard’s Elizabethan dialogue and settings. Bookended by scenes of hit men Julius and Vince held at blade-point in a London tavern by Pumpkin Pie and Meadsweet Coney, audience members follow the hapless pair as they do the bidding of Lord and Lady Wallace. They and other interconnected characters find themselves purchasing stimulants from apothecaries and taken hostage by rustics and a fallen lord called The Gimp. An eclectic musical score composed by il Troubadore permeates the play with the strains of mandolin, cello, clarinet, and traditional swearing-harp.
Director and Commedia Beauregard Artistic Director Christopher O. Kidder guides a score of game comic actors through flirtatious banter and frantic getaways. Originally based out of Minnesota, Commedia Beauregard spreads the company’s mission to rigorously translate beloved storylines into real and fictional languages, such as the popular A Klingon Christmas Carol and less-popular rendition of Annie in tones only dogs can hear.
