Sommore
Sommore was seemingly born to the throne years before she was officially crowned a “Queen of Comedy” on the tour of the same name. She quickly scaled the rungs of the comedy ladder, landing a historic gig as the first female host of BET’s ComicView in 1994 and receiving the Richard Pryor Award for Comic of the Year in 1995. But when The Queens of Comedy tour started rolling in the year 2000, Sommore’s fanbase grew so large, she wound up being registered in the Guiness Book of World Records for helping to draw an audience of up to 50,000 fans. Declared by Oprah as “a force to be reckoned with in the new millennium,” Sommore continues to slay audiences with standup routines that are unapologetically raunchy and absolutely not for kids.
Bruce Bruce
Bruce Bruce got his start telling jokes while cooking barbecue. But when BET’s Coast to Coast comedy showcase rolled through town, the then-chef earned three appearances on the show. From there, Bruce Bruce landed spots on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and Showtime at the Apollo, as well as a two-year stint hosting BET’s ComicView. Onstage, the charismatic performer waxes hilarious on topics such as family and donuts.
Neal S. Blaisdell Arena
